R01Industry lens / Retail & commerce

Make the customer promise and the operational reality meet.

For retail and commerce businesses, we assess the journey from discovery and order through stock, fulfilment, returns and service—so the website or store experience is grounded in what the operation can support.

The direct answer

Commerce is a connected promise.

A product page, basket or account journey is only part of the job. The promise is completed by availability, payment and order rules, fulfilment, communication, returns and the team that resolves the exception.

R02The customer-to-operations journey

Follow the promise
all the way through.

These questions make a retail scope more useful than a generic online-store feature list.

  1. 01

    Discover and decide

How do customers find products or services, understand availability and receive the information needed to enquire or buy?

  2. 02

    Order and confirmation

Which system owns the order, what data is captured, where does approval occur and what is communicated when an order cannot proceed as expected?

  3. 03

    Stock and fulfilment

How are availability, reservations, substitutions, collection, dispatch and store or warehouse hand-offs represented and reconciled?

  4. 04

    Service and return

How are customer requests, delivery issues, returns, credits and product information handled across the people and systems involved?

R03What a first scope can deliver

Build the right layer,
not every layer.

  • A documented retail or commerce journey and pain-point map
  • Website, portal or storefront requirements tied to a customer task
  • A source-of-truth and hand-off map for products, orders and fulfilment
  • Integration feasibility questions for POS, e-commerce, inventory or accounting tools
  • Content, customer-service and exception-path requirements
  • Acceptance scenarios and an ownership plan for launch and change

Depending on the findings, the next work may be web development, a systems integration, a workflow improvement or a staged ERP & operations brief.

R04The boundary matters

Stock, customer data and service cannot be hand-waved.

Online and store stock can have different timings, reservation rules, returns behaviour and offline constraints. A display of stock is not automatically a transactional inventory ledger, and a connection is not assumed until the relevant systems, ownership and reconciliation process are clear.

Customer and transaction-related data also needs a deliberate purpose, access and retention discussion. POPIA can inform the design of the website, portal or operational flow; it is not presented as certification or a substitute for the client’s wider privacy responsibilities.

Retail FAQ

Retail and commerce questions.

Less jargon. More clarity. Here’s what you need to know before we start.

All your questions, answered
Can you connect online and in-store retail operations?
We can assess a scoped order, stock, fulfilment or customer-service journey across approved retail systems. Whether a connection is feasible depends on the POS, e-commerce platform, inventory source, data model and operating rules already in place.
Will stock stay synchronised everywhere?
Stock visibility is not assumed to be a transactional stock ledger. The required source of truth, update frequency, reservations, returns, offline behaviour and reconciliation approach must be defined and validated for the selected systems.
Can you build a customer portal or commerce site?
Yes, where the customer task, catalogue or account data, authentication, fulfilment hand-off and support ownership can be clearly scoped. A portal has different security, content and operations requirements from a marketing site.
Can retail reporting include sales and customer information?
Reporting can be designed around agreed questions and approved sources. Access, retention, personal-information handling and performance requirements need to be decided with the client; POPIA is considered in the design, not claimed as certification.
